UKC Scenthound · FCI standard 254
Alpine Dachsbracke.
FCI 254 utilization: a robust, weather-resistant working dog for the mountain huntsman, used as a tracking hound for wounded deer and as a scenthound for hare and fox; Group 6 Scenthounds, Section 2 Leash (scent) hounds, with working trial. Wild und Hund (2004): breeders have always understood it as a low-legged blood hound (Schweißhund) rather than a hunting dog, its use almost entirely work after the shot, listed by the FCI as the third specialist beside the Bavarian and Hanoverian hounds. Wikipedia DE: the only blood-hound breed that gives tongue on the track..
Breed sets the odds. The parents set the dog. Every number here shows its source, its spread and how sure we are. Nothing on this page is a prediction about one dog.
The body
What the breed is built like. Registry standards give an ideal, not a range.
Height at the shoulder
Center is the midpoint of the FCI ideal; low and high span the FCI range and Wikipedia EN.
Weight
Single editorial source (Wikipedia EN, no citation for the weight); the FCI is silent.
Coat
Wikipedia EN and DE repeat the FCI 254 coat.
Heat tolerance
Derived from the standard's coat description (double coat, short, close = 3). A mountain dog bred for harsh weather; no measured heat data.
The work
What it was built to do in the field, and what a test or trial asks of it.
Role
FCI 254 utilization, Wild und Hund (2004) and Wikipedia DE agree. FCI puts it in the blood-hound section.
Primary game
FCI names deer; boar is editorial (Wikipedia EN).
Also used on
FCI 254 for hare and fox; Wikipedia DE for drives; the UBT member's account is one handler's opinion. No UBT breed page lists the Alpine Dachsbracke (the UBT breeds page read mentions the dachshund, not the Dachsbracke).
Search pattern
Registry text places it as a leash hound; voice-on-track and cold-trail ability are editorial (Wikipedia DE and EN). Single handler account also (K9 Conservationists). Whether voice is wanted in North American blood tracking was not sourced.
Field trial standard
Test rules (Schweißprüfung) were not read; Wikipedia DE is a secondary source for the clubs and the hunters-only policy.
How to read this page
Every value carries a label. Measured means peer-reviewed data on many dogs. Studied means peer-reviewed, smaller or indirect. Breed club means a club or registry states it. Editorial means expert opinion with no measurement behind it. Where two good sources disagree, both are shown and neither is averaged.
Published when the entry rests on the best information available from no fewer than three independent sources, checked by a second pass that did not write it. 2 sources on this page. Found something wrong? Tell us and the correction is logged with its date.
