FCI standard 371

Andalusian Terrier.

FCI 371 utilization: a good working terrier able to hunt rats, mice and all vermin; also used for rabbit and hare hunting (Group 3 Section 1, working trial optional). History: bred with a natural predisposition to hunt the rodents that were abundant in ports, wine cellars, warehouses, stables and tanneries; white colour was selected to be visible in the dark of those places. Wikipedia (English and Spanish): hunted the rats and mice hidden among the barrels in the wine cellars (bodegas) of the Marco de Jerez; the Spanish article says the white colour was chosen so the dogs could be seen in the dark of the workplaces and that the dog is tenacious and attentive with an excellent nose and eyesight..
