UKC Scenthound · FCI standard 299
Deutsche Bracke.
FCI 299: utilization 'Hound' (Group 6 Scenthounds, Section 1.3 small-sized hounds, with working trial); a lean, light, high-stationed hunting dog. Jagdfibel (and Wild und Hund): suited to tracking work before and after the shot, as the all-round forest working dog (Waldgebrauchshund); today mostly worked before the shot on large-area drives (Bewegungsjagden). Wild und Hund: some are worked only on blood trails. Wikipedia EN: usually hunted singly as a leash hound on smaller areas, and in packs on grounds of at least 1,000 ha per the breed club..
Breed sets the odds. The parents set the dog. Every number here shows its source, its spread and how sure we are. Nothing on this page is a prediction about one dog.
The body
What the breed is built like. Registry standards give an ideal, not a range.
Height at the shoulder
FCI and UKC print no sex split and no ideal, so no center; low and high span the FCI and UKC ranges (15.7 in FCI low, 21 in UKC high). Wild und Hund and Jagdfibel figures sit inside the registry range.
Coat
FCI 299, UKC, Jagdfibel and Wild und Hund agree on the coat.
Heat tolerance
Derived from the standard's coat description (short dense = 4). No measured heat data.
The work
What it was built to do in the field, and what a test or trial asks of it.
Role
The FCI utilization line is the one word 'Hound'; the detail is editorial (Jagdfibel, Wild und Hund, Wikipedia). Not a FCI Section 2 leash/blood hound; the Deutsche Bracke is a Section 1.3 hound that is also taken on blood trails.
Primary game
UKC is silent on game; the FCI standard names none. Game lists are editorial (Wild und Hund, both Wikipedias).
Also used on
Editorial; the German hunting press and Jagdfibel.
Search pattern
Voice-on-the-line is the Bracken tradition per Wild und Hund and Wikipedia EN. No registry text states it; marked editorial.
Field trial standard
Test rules (Prüfungsordnung) not read; the breeding requirement is from the 2009 Wild und Hund article about the club's dachsbracke, stated there for 'all Bracken and Dachsbracken' of the club.
How to read this page
Every value carries a label. Measured means peer-reviewed data on many dogs. Studied means peer-reviewed, smaller or indirect. Breed club means a club or registry states it. Editorial means expert opinion with no measurement behind it. Where two good sources disagree, both are shown and neither is averaged.
Published when the entry rests on the best information available from no fewer than three independent sources, checked by a second pass that did not write it. 2 sources on this page. Found something wrong? Tell us and the correction is logged with its date.
