FCI standard 372
Kazakh Tazy.
FCI 372: utilization hunting (searching, chasing and catching game) and coursing; Group 10 sighthounds, Section 1 long-haired or fringed sighthounds, without working trial. History: the hunting sighthound of the nomadic peoples of Kazakhstan since ancient times; one of the 'seven treasures' of the Kazakh people ('Zheti Kazyna'); a helper in hunting; used for different game; able to hunt alone, in groups and with hunting birds, the last especially appreciated. PLoS ONE (2023): officially recognized as the national heritage of Kazakhstan; the Tazy declined in popularity when more modern hunting methods came in. Wikipedia: used primarily for hunting; fewer than 300 purebred dogs; FCI accepted it in September 2024. Astana Times (2023): at a November 2023 eagle hunting festival in East Kazakhstan 40 Tazy dogs took part beside 40 golden eagles and 10 falcons, with a 1,000 m Tazy race..
Breed sets the odds. The parents set the dog. Every number here shows its source, its spread and how sure we are. Nothing on this page is a prediction about one dog.
The body
What the breed is built like. Registry standards give an ideal, not a range.
Height at the shoulder
FCI prints a desirable range, no ideal, so center is blank. Wikipedia's bitch range (55 to 60 cm) sits below FCI's (58 to 65 cm) and is an ordinary disagreement; both stand. Inches converted from cm.
Weight
Only Wikipedia states a weight, and its figure is uncited.
Coat
FCI standard; Wikipedia agrees.
Heat tolerance
Derived from the FCI coat description (short coat, seasonal undercoat = 4 on the ruled scale). No measured data.
The dog at home
What the breed asks of a day. The first thing most homes get wrong.
Energy
FCI standard and Wikipedia.
The work
What it was built to do in the field, and what a test or trial asks of it.
Role
FCI standard; PLoS ONE, Wikipedia and the Astana Times add context. The batch file lists the FCI standard as provisional; the standard itself is dated 2024.
Primary game
FCI names hare, fox and hoofed game; wolf is named by PLoS ONE and Wikipedia, not by the standard.
Also used on
PLoS ONE is peer-reviewed but names the quarry in its introduction as history, not as a field study.
Range
No source gives a close, medium or big class, so the figures stand as text.
Search pattern
Voice on the line is not stated by any source read.
Field trial standard
The festival is a cultural event reported in the press, not a registry trial standard.
How to read this page
Every value carries a label. Measured means peer-reviewed data on many dogs. Studied means peer-reviewed, smaller or indirect. Breed club means a club or registry states it. Editorial means expert opinion with no measurement behind it. Where two good sources disagree, both are shown and neither is averaged.
Published when the entry rests on the best information available from no fewer than three independent sources, checked by a second pass that did not write it. 2 sources on this page. Found something wrong? Tell us and the correction is logged with its date.
