Breed clubFederation Cynologique Internationale

No ideal printed; the FCI range.

Coat

FCI: harsh on the body, lying close to the skin, abundant undercoat (more in winter, less in summer); short and soft on head and ears. Colours: black and tan (intense tan, well distinct from the black), brown (chocolate) and tan, or red (fawn-red may be slightly overlaid with black), with nose black, brown or flesh coloured; small white marks on toes and chest permitted. Polish Wikipedia: black and tan is common, chocolate with lighter tan is rare, red in various shades very rare. English Wikipedia: short coat.

The dog at home

What the breed asks of a day. The first thing most homes get wrong.

Energy

FCI: stable and gentle; truly courageous; intelligent and easy to educate; not aggressive but wary towards strangers; an excellent guardian. English Wikipedia: energetic and active, suited to owners with ample opportunity for exercise; may prefer a single-pet household unless raised with others; needs assertive, confident guidance given an innate inclination toward dominance; lifespan of 10 to 13 years.

Breed clubFederation Cynologique Internationale

FCI 'easy to educate' and Wikipedia 'requires assertive guidance' differ in tone; both stand. The 10 to 13 year lifespan is editorial and not entered in median_lifespan_yr.

Grooming

English Wikipedia: minimal grooming and maintenance effort.

EditorialWikipedia (English)

Single editorial source. No RKC or AKC band was read for this breed (The Kennel Club recognised it on 1 April 2024 per Wikipedia; the KC page was not read).

How common the problems are

Evaluated dogs skew toward breeding stock; the numbers are still the best there are.

Most common disorders

English Wikipedia, citing Goleman et al. 2019 (Livestock Science 229): low genetic variation in the population; 1,342 dogs registered in Poland in 2015, 432 of them registered for breeding; if the population does not grow, a risk of inbreeding and the genetic disease that follows. Polish Wikipedia: population of about 1,200 registered with the Polish Kennel Club in 2008, rising year on year. No disease figures read.

EditorialWikipedia (English)

Population note, not a disease list. The Goleman paper itself was not opened.

Every value carries a label. Measured means peer-reviewed data on many dogs. Studied means peer-reviewed, smaller or indirect. Breed club means a club or registry states it. Editorial means expert opinion with no measurement behind it. Where two good sources disagree, both are shown and neither is averaged.

Published when the entry rests on the best information available from no fewer than three independent sources, checked by a second pass that did not write it. 3 sources on this page. Found something wrong? Tell us and the correction is logged with its date.
