The three registries agree on the job: drive game to waiting guns. Wikipedia (en) and AKC differ on temperament emphasis (independent worker versus family dog); both stand. Editorial views are shown beside the standard, labelled; where they disagree both stand (Chad, Oct 8 2026).

Primary game

FCI 30: small game, driven to waiting guns. AKC: small game, driving it to waiting guns. Wikipedia (en): hare, roe deer, and in the north wild boar. Wikipedia (fr): hare (specialised), though it can adapt to all game.

Breed clubFédération Cynologique Internationale, 1964

Registries say small game; Wikipedia (en) adds roe deer and boar. Editorial views are shown beside the standard, labelled; where they disagree both stand (Chad, Oct 8 2026).

Also used on

Wikipedia (en): roe deer, and in the north wild boar; also bred in small numbers in Italy and used on wild boar there, though Italian native hounds remain the local hunters' preference. Wikipedia (fr): can adapt to all game.

EditorialWikipedia (English)

Single editorial lineage (Wikipedia en cites a breed page and Europetnet, Wikipedia fr cites the SCC page). No registry text names deer or boar. Editorial views are shown beside the standard, labelled; where they disagree both stand (Chad, Oct 8 2026).

Search pattern

FCI 30 and UKC gait: lively, gay, light and tireless gallop. FCI 30: shoulder 'constructed for gallop'. Wikipedia (fr): a fine voice and a very fine scent; the white coat is easy to see in the hunt; very fast; adapts easily to steep, rocky ground. Wikipedia (en): a very good sense of smell; hunts in packs; bred to hunt independently without many orders. UKC: chases game to waiting guns.

Voice is praised by Wikipedia (fr) only; no source describes it (open, mute, cry on the line). Pack work in Wikipedia (en); the registries describe the job but not pack versus single. Editorial views are shown beside the standard, labelled; where they disagree both stand (Chad, Oct 8 2026).

How to read this page

Every value carries a label. Measured means peer-reviewed data on many dogs. Studied means peer-reviewed, smaller or indirect. Breed club means a club or registry states it. Editorial means expert opinion with no measurement behind it. Where two good sources disagree, both are shown and neither is averaged.

Published when the entry rests on the best information available from no fewer than three independent sources, checked by a second pass that did not write it. 3 sources on this page. Found something wrong? Tell us and the correction is logged with its date.
