Coat

FCI 375: two varieties, interbreeding allowed. Short-haired: max 2 cm, horse-coat texture, dense, even, some rough hairs accepted. Rough-haired: medium coarse, 2 to 5 cm, with a dense undercoat that keeps moisture from wetting the skin; denser but less long on limbs and head, ears may be less dense or short; no curls or ringlets. Colours: fawn in shades, black and tan, hare gray, fawn with black overlay; white appreciated on four limbs, chest, neck (collar), forehead, muzzle and tail tip.

Breed clubFederation Cynologique Internationale, 2026

FCI prints one size for both varieties, so no lines. FCI appreciates white; the Italian segugi standards (198, 337) call white not desirable.

Heat tolerance

4 of 5 · FCI 375: short variety max 2 cm; rough variety 2 to 5 cm with dense undercoat.

DerivedFederation Cynologique Internationale, 2026

What the breed asks of a day. The first thing most homes get wrong.

Energy

FCI 375: sociable by temperament, very attached to its master; strong temperament with an exaggerated passion for hunting; innate obedience keeps it closely linked to its master and to its hunting mates. Wikipedia EN (Segugio italiano, citing Pallotti et al. 2017): the Segugio dell'Appennino is genetically close to the two Segugio Italiano coats.
